Home / Meet The Money Guy
Hey, I’m Gav, The Money Guy.
I wasn’t born great with money. In fact, I was the guy who spent everything he earned, convinced that more income would fix everything. Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
My parents didn’t pass on great financial habits, groundbreaking advice or a huge trust fund.
So I figured school would teach me what I needed to know for the real world… how to manage money, avoid debt, and not end up working until I was 70.
But that didn’t happen.
When I left school, I was completely unprepared for real life.
I knew how to pass exams but not how to handle a credit card, manage a budget, or build wealth.
So, like a lot of people, I got a car loan. A credit card. And told myself, “It’s fine. I can always make more money.”
I was a great spender… and a terrible saver.
And because I thought income was the answer, I kept chasing more of it.
More money. More success. More pay rises.
But my financial situation didn’t change, every extra dollar I made I somehow figured a way to spend it.
Because of this, saving felt impossible.
I’d put away $1,000, feel proud… then the second the bank balance dropped to $990, I’d take it as a sign to spend the rest.
I’d convince myself I’d “start again next month”, but nothing changed.
It wasn’t until I decided I wanted to buy a house that I had a reason to get serious.
I read books, followed influencers, watched a bajillion videos, tried budgeting apps, no-spend challenges, even gave my money to someone else just so I couldn’t touch it.
Some things worked for a while, but nothing stuck.
Everything felt restrictive, boring, or like I had to give up having a life just to get ahead.
Eventually, I realised what I needed wasn’t more rules it was a system to manage my money.
One that aligned with my goals, allowed for fun, and gave me real structure without feeling like punishment.
Once I had that, everything changed.
I saved $10K quickly. Then more. Bought my first property. Then built wealth that continues to grow.
That system gave me structure. That structure gave me momentum.
And once I had momentum, I felt unstoppable.
I didn’t have to say no to going out with friends or enjoying life.
I just had a clear plan and it worked.
I’ve lived this.
I know what it’s like to feel behind.
To feel guilty about spending.
To wonder where all your money goes and why you’re not further ahead.
And I know what it feels like when it finally clicks. When you start saving. Start building. Start feeling proud of your progress without giving up everything to get there.
That’s why I started Muney.
